Subject: Vth WISPS Conference
WOMEN IN IBERIAN AND IBERO-AMERICAN STUDIES
----------------
Vth WISPS Conference - Cambridge, 31st March & 1st April 2004
Women in Spanish and Portuguese Studies (WISPS) was founded by colleagues from the University of Liverpool; its main academic goal is to organise an annual conference which highlights new work of interest to scholars working on women’s issues and gender studies.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Proposals are invited for workshops, panels, or individual papers (20 minutes; that is, eight sides of A4 double-spaced) from men or women on any area of research relating to gender and women’s issues in Spain, Portugal or Latin America. This may include subjects such as feminist theory, history, cultural memory, linguistics, literature, cultural and textual theory, audio and film studies, performance studies, anthropology, geography, queer theory and theatre studies, within Luso-Hispanic cultures. The conference organisers will attempt to group papers into thematic sessions.
An abstract for the proposed paper (100 words), specifying any audio-visual equipment required, should be sent to one of the Conference Secretaries by 5th December 2003.
Proposals for panels of three speakers are encouraged, as are proposals for workshops or round-table discussion panels. In this case, the panel organiser should arrange for an abstract for each paper (100 words) to be sent to one of the Conference Secretaries by 5th December 2003. Please be sure to indicate the title of the panel and the name of the panel organiser for each abstract.
Interdisciplinary and/or comparative panels or papers are encouraged.
We welcome proposals from outside the UK but speakers must be clear that this is a young organisation unable to reimburse travel expenses. Delegates are encouraged to apply to their institutions for assistance with travel costs.
Enquiries and proposals for all individual papers and panels should be sent by e-mail, fax or post to one of the Conference Secretaries by 5th December 2003.
