Their house was hit: no garage, no windows, holes to the sky with water pouring in as it's raining, so lots of water damage, but they are spending the night there until their sons and my sister who lives nearby can get down there tomorrow with a Uhaul to take stuff out of there. I'd go down except I have an 87 year old mom next door to me and it looks real bad for big tornadoes in our area tomorrow. Assuming we get through that, I'll be heading down later this week if they need help.
Pretty interesting times,

My aunt and uncle live in Joplin, and they were visiting relations in Iowa when it hit, and know their neighborhood is devastated, but they are having trouble getting back. Will hopefully hear something tonight. Tomorrow we're under the gun big time, so it ain't over yet!

i am just now reading about the destruction. greg galbraith, who designed the ozark calendar, and has served on the board of the ozark regional land trust lives in carthage, right next to joplin~

the storm before dark from a hundred miles west loomed miles into the evening sky.

this is one of the worst twisters i have ever heard about in our region. i grew up on the east side of wichita, near there, similarly destructive funnels carved paths in andover and udall kansas (google them), then west of here in stroud, ok, as well.

cab, in tulsa

I'm just wondering how our friends in the tornado country have fared over the past weekend. Looks like OACC folks took some damage or were close to it. Others?

Would it be a good idea to have some kind of bioregional network disaster response capability? I have no sense of what it would be like but it seems like climate change is going to be forcing the issue more than ever in coming years. We might want to discuss some kind of support system.

Thoughts and prayers to any and all affected in the most recent wake up call from nature...
