JOIN MILLIONS ON EARTH DAY IN A CALL FOR CLIMATE!

oneEarth Day 2008 will be the biggest yet!  From the national Mall in Washington DC to thousands of events from Togo to Buenos Aires, plus 1,000 college campuses and religious partnerships, join millions of people around the world who will participate in our Call for ClimateDemand that your government take bold, swift and fair action to tackle climate change. In the US, be part of one million people who will call Congress at  202 224-3121 on Earth Day, April 22,  2008.  Ask for your Representative or Senator and ask them to take tough and fair action on climate change.  We are demanding a moratorium on coal burning, renewable energy, building efficiency, and protection for the poor and middle class in the new energy economy.  Sign Earth Day Network's Sky Petition and visit our website for more.

one

Buy the official Earth Day 2008 poster and t-shirt and support EDN.

Our flagship event for this year, Earth Day on the Mall in Washington DC, will feature world-class talent and speakers in order to mobilize hundreds of thousands behind the Call for Climate.  The Roots, Chevy Chase, The Commons, Tom Friedman, Government Mule, Erykah Badu, James Hansen and Ed Begley will all be there and you should be too!  Walk, bike, row or take public transportation to this free event for the entire family!

Additionally, the major events in seven other US cities organized by Earth Day Network and Green Apple Festival will feature A-list entertainment to help bring out crowds for Earth Day, including the Chicago Aphrobeat Orchestra, Menudo, the Neville Brothers, Ziggy Marley and Mickey Hart (The Grateful Dead). Check out our events site to find out more!

In the US listen for our Public Service Announcements (PSA's) on Call for Climate on a radio station near you - Chevy Chase, Kevin Bacon, Andre Agassi, and Zach Brach have lent their talent to these announcements urging listeners to join the Call for Climate.

This Earth Day, we can change the forecast for global warming.  Plan on being part of the biggest movement worldwide. Call your leaders, come to an event, and sign the petition.

HELP FOR WATER PROJECTS ON THREE CONTINENTS A CLICK AWAY

threeImaging walking miles in the heat carrying a heavy water jug, full of water that may not be safe - that is the reality for over one billion people who don't have access to an adequate water supply.  Some 2.4 billion lack basic sanitation. Earth Day Network has developed the Global Water Network, a website to raise awareness about water issues and generate sponsorships of water and sanitation projects on three continents through our "Adopt a Water Project."  The interactive website has a focus on rural communities facing poor water and sanitation conditions.  Help for water projects in developing countries is a click away - at www.globalwaternetwork.org - funds collected through the site will be given directly to NGO organizations in South America, Africa and the Middle East involved in developing the projects.

COOL GLOBES IN WASHINGTON!

"CoolGlobes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet," is an exciting project that uses the medium of public art to inspire individuals and organizations to take action against global warming. After being exhibited in Chicago in the summer of 2007, the Cool Globes (some of which are 5-feet in diameter) come to the Botanic Garden in Washington, DC (May 24 - October 13 2008) and also the Kennedy Center.  Four of the Globes will be on display at the National Mall during the Earth Day event on April 20th. Stay tuned for how these will be auctioned off to benefit Earth Day Network's national green schools campaign.

EARTH DAY NETWORK JOINS FORCES WITH THE CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

The Center for Environmental Education (CEE), founded by Earth Day Network Board member Jayni Chase, is an acclaimed organization devoted to the creation of environmentally healthy schools where children learn how to choose sustainable lifestyles. Now, CEE and Earth Day Network will join their resources and expertise to make sure that every child learns in a healthy environment.  This will make us the leading organization on greening schools in the US.

We will have several school greening projects this Earth Day in New York, Chicago and Denver, along with our partner, Green Apple Festival.

NEW ON EARTH DAY TV!

fourRenowned journalist and author, Richard Louv is one of the most influential figures of the environmental movement in recent years. His latest book Last Child in the Woods has become one of the centerpieces of the movement to bring environmental education into our schools through the No Child Left Inside Act, currently being debated in Congress. Watch Louv's interview in our Authors Channel to learn more.

On April 16th, tune in to the broadcast of Chill Out: Campus Solutions to Global Warming, sponsored by Earth Day Network organized by the National Wildlife Federation and ClimateCounts.org student-made videos, inspiring presentations from contest winners, solution-focused discussions, and live Q&As with people who really are changing the world.
