I'm writing to let you know that this month
's Universal Festival  
Calendar, with its Mythic prelude
 Quantum Economy, is now online at

Also to send you an apology, if you're a 
regular reader of the UFC.  
Prompted by a message from a
 friend who likened the UFC preludes to  
the "Encycloped
ia Brittanica," I ran a word count on last month's  
prel
ude. It weighed in at a massive 4,077 words. I'm mortifie
d. As an  
effortlessly expansive Jupiterian character, I
 honestly had no idea  
that the UFC preludes had balloon
ed to the size of medium-length book  
chapters.

As I've
 written so much about things that I'd like to see get sm
aller  
-- the US military budget and the number of Ameri
can military bases  
worldwide, the unregulated markets i
n derivative investments and  
credit default swaps, Big 
Pharma, corporate executive salaries and  
bonuses, the $
636 million retirement package paid to Lee Raymond by  
E
xxon, etc. etc. -- I'm clearly not walking the talk mysel
f.

So as of this month, the UFC Preludes are on a reduci
ng diet. This  
month's is 3,829 words. This may appear i
nsignificant in terms of the  
simple arithmetic, but con
sider this: it's a drop of 6%. If you  
weighed 200 pound
s on New Year's Day, that means you've lost 12  
pounds i
n a single month, and your doctor might be recommending  

Prozac, or worse. Easy does it. Best to take off the pou
nds and  
paragraphs gradually and gracefully.

So -- on 
the premise that we must become the change we wish to see
, I  
hold from now on the intention that as I cut the UF
C prelude by 6% a  
month, the same thing will happen wit
h the things I've listed above,  
the price of air freigh
t and everything else on the planet that ought  
to get s
maller. The less bulk, the more buzz and motion, and the 
 
closer Earth gets to Quantum Economy.
